My name is Iris Rosado, and I am the founder and proprietor of Survival, Preparedness, Emergency Kits. My idea for the company was born as a result of many years of thought and research into the areas of emergency preparedness. In July of 2011 I started formalizing the concept and in January 2012 we opened house in Tucson, AZ. I am a Registered Pharmacist by trade and after over 22 years of practice I decide to temporarily set aside my stable, well respected and compensated profession to engage in a mission to bring awareness to the subject of emergency preparedness.
My journey was set into motion by the events that occurred on September 11, 2001. I was working as a Pharmacist in a retail setting located inside a large supermarket right across the Hudson River from Manhattan that morning. Unlike the rest of the world, those of us who were there working that morning did not know exactly what was going on. We all thought some nation had declared war on the U.S. and that the entire area was under attack. The reality turned out to be was just as horrifying. I and so many others in the area experienced:” the good, the bad and the ugly” that day. I saw first- hand how people really react when they are scared and unprepared. So many lives were lost and countless others injured. The air around my home, which was just a few miles behind The Statue of Liberty, was starting to fill up smoke and ashes. When I entered my house, I began packing as I prayed. Our lives as a nation had changed forever and my journey into preparedness had just begun.
In the years following that horrible day, we experienced: Sandy, Katrina, tornado's, wildfires and other disasters, and there have been a series of terrible disasters worldwide. In spite of all these events, there still seems to be a general disconnect by many Americans, including Tucsonans, who somehow feel these events do not occur everywhere and therefore won’t directly impact their daily lives, leading them not to prepare ahead of time and not engage in serious discussions regarding emergency preparedness. My company’s mission is to start changing that. We hope to create awareness to this subject. We promote a proactive instead of a reactive approach to emergency preparedness.
I have chosen the slogan of : Prepare, Survive, Emerge! for my company. It tells a tale of those who have seen or experienced disaster, it outlines a simple plan, it gives hope and promotes resilience.
Thank you for reading the story of our humble beginning. We hope you follow us in our journey.
Prepare, Survive, Emerge!
